I always thought that most of the malaysia items were very cheap. (excluding electronics, fishes and prawns -.-)

but it is just because we earn singapore dollars.

an average income of a person working in malaysia is 1200 ringgit.
an average income of a person working in singapore is S$2000

s$10 = 22 ringgit

A table in singapore could be sold for S$200.
A table in malaysia could be sold for 410 ringgit.
when converted both prices are of the same value.

now
lets look at the salary difference in singaporean workers and malaysian workers.

malaysian workers have to pay a price of a 'larger number' with their small amount of salary.
singaporean workers pay a price of a 'smaller number' with their high amount of salary.

its worse when coming to buying electronics, fishes and prawns. they are sold much cheaper in singapore than in malaysia.

malaysian workers are on the losing end.

if you earn singapore dollars, its cheap to buy items from both malaysia and singapore.
but if you earn malaysian ringgit, its expensive in both ways.

now i understand why foreign workers like working in singapore.
